Another week, another quote! And another one from an advertising legend, and don’t be imaging the Mad Men era, it was way before that! He started off as a copywriter for J. Walter Thompson in 1912. He was also a great educator, working for the Chicago Business school between 1931-39. And publishing books, including A Technique for Producing Ideas . Which I’ve read and would really recommend!
There is no sure fire way to get ideas, but it’s full of advice which might help! I really like this quote, you can’t create something out of nothing, but you can take things that are already understood and do something new and clever with them. Interestingly my final lecture of the year on Thursday was from someone at the head of an advertising company, and he had lots to say about ideas. But I’ll post about that next week…
